Fishing Day at Salem Pond

Every year we get the opportunity to go to Salem with all the other special ed classes in Utah County to go fishing. The DNR stocks the pond, Home Depot came to help the kids catch fish and Fresh Market made and served us lunch. First of all a big thank you to all the volunteers that came to make the day special for these wonderful kids!

This year was a bit colder and wetter than in years past. There also weren't as many kids there. When we got there, there was a guy that had some "lucky chairs" set up just for us. Holden took one of the poles and Clara took the other one and started reeling them in, and the immediately had a fish (the guy put the fish on and threw it out so they didn't have to wait for a fish to bite).

Clara, Holden and Patti

Clara and her Intervener Nichole

Holden and his fish - he was so proud of his fish and loved just holding it up.

Clara and Maury - Maury is Clara's intervener from last year. I love this picture!

We also saw the Flash Fox, Harley the Sasquatch, and Smokey the Bear. Holden didn't want to go up to them, but when they came up to us, he would give them five. At least he didn't freak out, we are moving in the right direction!

It was a chilly day, but it was a fun day. We had a great time and it's good to get out of the school for a while. Clara seemed to like the rain on her face. It was great to spend the day with her!

That sounds like such a great experience. Even though it was wet it still looks like it was a blast. I love the "lucky seats". :)
